The 35-year-old Northern Irishman survived a wild back nine, including a record-fourth double-bogey at the 13th, before holding off England’s Justin Rose in a tense playoff. McIlroy’s rounds of 72, 66, 66, and 73, including a pair of brilliant approaches on 15 and 17, saw him edge Rose, who finished level at 11 under after a final-round 66.
