1 NOT SHAMPOOING ENOUGH
It may seem obvious, but “just as not washing your face can lead to clogged pores, not cleaning your scalp causes buildup and clogged hair follicles,” says Stephen Thevenot, a hairstylist at David Mallett Salon in New York City. Without regular washing, “oil, dead skin cells and debris build up on the scalp, weighing down hair,” explains Sejal Shah, M.D., a dermatologist in New York City. On the other hand, shampooing too often could actually also be to blame for greasy hair. “If you’re washing too much, the scalp skin is constantly being stripped of oils,” Dr. Shah says, and “it will respond by producing more oil to replenish what’s lost.” A good rule of thumb: Shampoo every two days if you have a healthy scalp.…
