Upfront Émilieu Studio custom designed and built the interior of the 2000-square-metre Camondo Mediterranee design school (in Toulon, France) entirely out of recycled materials – a radical and innovative choice for such a scale. The built environment itself has become a pedagogical tool, a playground for the designers of the future with modular, mobile furniture that can be moved around, touched, experienced and transformed allowing students to learn to design spaces through sensibility and tactility. Throughout their education, each student builds their ‘toolbox’, extensions transforming the furniture into carts, whiteboards, mobile desks, sofas … the possibilities are endless.
