Sydney interior designer Matt Woods has always had an ethos of sustainable practice as the basis for his projects, both hospitality and residential. Working solo, as he always has, his work is as lean as his practice, making the most of limited resources and working with reclaimed materials when he can. Recently, he has also been designing for deconstruction.
Matt’s breakthrough project was Bloodwood, a restaurant in Sydney’s Newtown with a sustainable ethos that included recycled glassware, recycled paper menus and minimal food waste. Accordingly, Matt’s design for the restaurant interiors features a whole host of recycled materials such as railway sleepers, old doors, tractor seats and reclaimed steel.
