IN 1998, Haig Tacorian, the founder of California-based designer TACORI, commissioned artisan Garo Kourounian to craft an engagement ring inscribed with a symbol of love. Kourounian’s first inclination was to etch a series of hearts into the inner face of the band, but Tacorian wanted something more distinct and special. Kourounian then flipped the hearts upside down and shifted their placement so that only the curved upper halves of the shape showed, resulting in a row of what has since become an integral motif in TACORI’s design repertoire: the crescent.
