Banknotes raise nearly £1m for charity
Ten charities will benefit after some of the first banknotes to feature an image of King Charles raised £914,127 when they were auctioned at Spink in London.
The banknotes, which have a face value of around £78,000, were released soon after new £5, £10, £20 and £50 notes entered circulation in June.
One £50 note broke the record for a Bank of England banknote auction, going for £26,000. In the £10 auction, a single note went for £17,000.
Staff at the Bank of England chose ten charities to benefit from the sale: The Childhood Trust, The Trussell Trust, Shout, Carers UK, Demelza, WWF UK, The Brain Tumour Charity, London’s Air Ambulance Charity, Child Bereavement UK and Samaritans.
