I enjoyed reading the Big Bedford Story which ended in the February issue writes Alan Biggs.
The interest being, that my late dad drove three of these on ‘Ham River’, this was at Fishers Green pit, Waltham Abbey, Essex.
Dad started there in 1947, getting his first Bedford SST new in 1952, RPK 890, fleet number 293 - 36hp petrol, six-yard tipper, and he loved it.
Sadly, when the Suez trouble started in 1956, Ham River took the Bedford off my dad and he then got a second-hand SST, WPC 761, fleet number 358, Perkins R6 diesel, six-yard tipper.
