ON Saturday, April 13, ‘The Lakelander’, run by Saphos Trains, will depart diesel-hauled from Leicester and take the Peterborough to Birmingham line to pick-up additional passengers at Narborough, Hinckley, and Nuneaton, before heading northwest on the West Coast Main Line. The next passenger pick-up will be at Tamworth and then Lichfield Trent Valley, Rugeley Trent Valley, Crewe and finally Preston.
At Preston, a member of the Carnforth steam locomotives pool will take charge of the train, being BR 7P Pacific No. 70000 Britannia, LMS 4-6-0 No. 46100 Royal Scot or West Country light Pacific No. 34046 Braunton.
Continuing north, the tour will pass through Lancaster, over Shap, and down into Penrith, before finally arriving at Carlisle for a stop of about three hours.
