Sony has added to its home theatre audio lineup with the HT-S40R, a 5.1 system featuring wireless rear speakers, subwoofer and a three-channel soundbar.
Available from May priced £350, the HT-S40R claims to offer 'cinema sound without clutter or complexity.' Somewhat unusually, the soundbar element is passive, and connects via speaker wire to the subwoofer, which also functions as the LCR amplifier and source switcher, and saves you having to find an additional power outlet. An additional external two-channel amp then connects wirelessly to the sub, and can be placed conveniently near to the system's passive rear speakers.
Connections are HDMI ARC, optical digital audio, analogue 3.5mm, USB and Bluetooth 5.0 for wireless streaming.
Dolby Audio decoding (to Dolby Digital 5.1), is joined by preset EQs for Cinema, Music, Standard…
