Polk Audio has followed up its award-winning Reserve Series [see p112] with a second new range of home cinema-centric speakers. The Monitor XT features bookshelf, floorstander, centre, subwoofer and Dolby Atmos options, and has an eye on budget-conscious shoppers.
The American marque, now just a year shy of its 50th anniversary, says the range takes advantage of its advances in 'superior sounding – but still cost-effective – woofers, tweeters, crossovers, and cabinetry.'
At the top of the Monitor XT tree is the XT70 Tower, which appears designed to offer serious bang for-buck. Priced at £500-per-pair, the XT70’s front baffle houses a 1in Terylene tweeter, two 6.5in midbass drivers, and a pair of 8in passive radiators. Frequency response is claimed down to 35Hz, while sensitivity is rated at an efficient 89dB.…
