This private gallery in the city of Hangzhou demonstrates a powerful exhibition space that radiates not only aesthetic prowess, but also the personality of the exhibits it houses. Done by Chinese architectural firm PIG DESIGN, this edgy exhibition centre is dedicated to Italian furniture house Memphis Group, where clean lines, sharp colours and stark geometric shapes collide to echo the peculiarity and vitality of the furniture on display. Perched atop a hillside at 200 metres above sea level in Lombok, this 495m² home, named Villa Samsara, is the crème de la crème of the prest igious Selong Selo resort development that boasts sweeping views over Selong Belanak Beach, the Indian Ocean and Mount Rinjani. A 1,063 square-foot, two-bedroom penthouse in Hong Kong’s Mid-Levels was revamped into a spacious one-bedroom residence for a newly-wed couple who enjoy entertaining at home. The home of Angues Chan, co-founder of home concierge app Butler Asia, and his wife Genevieve Lam, the apartment was refurbished by award-winning Manila and Hong Kong-based interior and architectural designer JJ Acuna, founder of JJ Acuna /Bespoke Studio. Before the project commenced, Lam had left her career in property development to pursue her passion – interior design – at the Insight School of Interior Design Hong Kong. In the small lakeside town of Alserio, in the Lombardy province of Brianza in north west Italy, sits a 6,997 square-foot family villa that chooses modern vernacular architecture in lieu of the traditional regional style. Set along a North-South axis, parallel to a lake, and surrounded by green fields and the majestic Orobie Prealps mountains, the architecture of the villa was inspired by the site’s idyllic landscape. Inside, bright and flexible contemporary interiors were designed to accommodate the views, and encourage indoor-outdoor living. The project’s architect, Annalisa Mauri, designed the villa in a Y-shaped plan with three levels and three volumes, which she calls “ribbons” because of their slender, elongated form. Perched amid the urban locale of Trivandrum in Kerala, India, Pirouette House is inspired by the architecture of Laurie Baker, featuring fired brick walls that form geometric patterns that appear to dance and pirouette through space. For this residence, Mr Kiran wanted a place that would give him and his family a secluded space where they could relax peacefully. To foster a sense of privacy amid the dense Trivandrum neighbourhood, the two-storey house designed by Indian architecture firm Wallmakers uses an inward-facing structure surrounding the central courtyard, which serves as the home’s focal point. Versatile and aesthetically appealing, woodwork furniture is commonplace in most Hong Kong homes.
