Miami Monte
Ricardo Martinez of Miami, Florida, snatched this ’79 Monte from the jaws of Junkyard Death. Five years later it sports a 400ci small-block with hot heads, a ported Edelbrock Victor Jr. intake, a Holley 750 double-pumper, Hooker headers, and a 2½-inch exhaust. Inside, a Mallory tach and ’87 Super Sport instrumentation keep him abreast of what’s happening up front. A 2-inch drop, Southside bars, and BFGoodrich meats complete this tight package.
Big-Inch Bad Boy
Owning one of the few 454-powered first-generation Monte Carlos out there means you get to play a little. Mike Parmentier of Aurora, Illinois, the second owner of this ’70 SS, has improved the basic LS5 with an LS6 intake, 930cfm Carb Shop carburetor, Herbert roller cam, 3-inch exhaust, Hooker headers, and more.
