After completing well over 2000 miles, the HOT ROD Power Tour entourage rolled into the Chicago area for one of the largest stops on the Tour. Montgomery Wards Auto Express in Merrillville, Indiana, sponsored the Windy City stop, and even though the weather was overcast and cold, there was an overflowing parking lot of cars that came from Illinois, Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan and else-where just to check out the cruisin’.
Merrillville is just southeast of Chicago, so there were many recognizable faces—the Chicago Outlaws (Randy Lambert, Mike Thompson, Steve Penrod, Duane Waldrop and more) were there, as were some new faces. Many readers brought pictures of project cars they are working on, and others brought their newly finished rides.
