FRANCE When William Christie bought his 16th-century house in France, the grounds were a ruin. He created eight symmetrical parterres and used garden elements to restore a sense of balance. This is one of those great old Spanish-style houses, built in 1921, but the bathroom had gone through a remodel that did not fit the genre.
