“One irony I’ve noticed in my 30-plus years as an interior designer? Upon entering a room, most people look for a way out. I know it applies to me; the first thing to grab my eye is always a window. Serves 4–6 INGREDIENTS 1 cup whole milk 3 eggs ½ cup sugar 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 2 tablespoons butter, melted ½ cup all-purpose flour 1 ripe pear, cored and sliced 2 tablespoons eau de vie (a brandy distilled from fruit) 1. Preheat the oven to 475°F. In a large bowl, whisk together the milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla, and butter until the sugar is dissolved. Add the flour and whisk until smooth.
