Despite good reviews, Jim Carrey’s new Showtime series, Kidding, isn’t catching on. The comedy-drama is losing a staggering amount of viewers from its lead-in show, Shameless. “Kidding is well-produced, -written and -acted, but it’s had dismal ratings in recent weeks compared to Shameless,” says a TV insider. The 56-year-old’s series, which focuses on the life of a Mr. Rogers–like star, has been averaging 163,000 viewers in the key 25–54 demographic and a mere 134,000 in the 18–49 demo, while Shameless has been averaging 593,000 viewers in the 25–54 demo and 505,000 in the 18–49 demo. “Overall,” adds the insider, “comedy fans just aren’t getting the joke.
