On Oct. 25, hundreds of costumed kids — the children of frontline workers and military families — paraded past the White House’s South Portico, which the first lady had decorated with autumn-colored leaves, chrysanthemums and pumpkins for the Washington, D.C., landmark’s annual Halloween celebration. She and her husband, President Donald Trump, watched with delight as a stream of superheroes, unicorns, firefighters, animals, skeletons and more walked past them and waved.
