As he strolled alongside a law-enforcement officer on Oct. 7, Christopher Laundrie appeared to be in very good spirits. “He was speaking very animatedly, using his hands,” says a witness. The 62-year-old was at the Carlton Reserve in Sarasota, Fla., to assist, he said, in the massive, monthlong hunt for his fugitive son, Brian, who many believe murdered his fiancée, Gabby Petito. “At one point, Christopher got the officer to crack a smile, and they shared a laugh together. It was bizarre behavior for someone who claims to be so concerned about his child.”
