Q: What is a DPF? A: It’s a filter fitted to the exhaust system that helps to catch particulate matter (most people call it soot) in the exhaust fumes of a diesel engine vehicle. This includes carbon, complex organic chemicals, sulphates, nitrates, ammonium, sodium chloride, mineral dust, water and a series of metals. These are suspended in the air (exhaust fumes). Q: What’s inside a DPF that catches that soot? A: There’s a type of monolith (e.g. wall flow) which contains platinum and cerium to help trap the soot. The Royal Automobile Club is set to host its summer Concours at the Woodcote Park clubhouse in Surrey on July 8, 2026, following the success of this year’s debut. The inaugural event established a permanent place in the ‘Summer Motor Week’ schedule for Club members, their guests, international collectors and car lovers. Falling in the middle of the week between the British Grand Prix and the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the Concours will be at the centre of a lengthy celebration of motoring in the UK. REPLACING A success is never easy. Just ask Ford, which stupidly replaced its original sleek Mustang with the boxy and therefore unpopular Mustang II. Or Coke, whose tasteless new recipe for its famous cola in 1985 was an unmitigated disaster, forcing the beverage giant to quickly revert back to the original. Due to the car’s popularity, the threat of getting it wrong made replacing the XK8 an equally tricky proposition for Jaguar. The average Daimler customer was very different to the typical Jaguar buyer. In the 1960s Sir William Lyons recognised this, responding well to the requests made by Daimler dealer Stratstone of Mayfair and developing two unique Jaguar-based models for the Daimler marque, allowing enthusiasts to buy a 2.5 V8 or a Sovereign instead of forcing them into other marques. Reports suggesting that McGovern had been escorted from the building circulated online during December, sparked by an exclusive news story broken by Autocar. The triangular-shaped aluminium lower suspension arm is a common sight on numerous Jaguars, including several generations of the XJ saloon, the XF and also the second generation (X150) of the XK and XKR. Despite the design of this lower suspension arm being almost identical across the range of cars it’s fitted to, North Wales Jag Centre has found that some of them are more expensive than others. For instance, the arms for the XJR shown here (X350 generation) cost over £500 each for genuine parts, whereas they did discover the same arms for the XFR cost less than half this amount and can be fitted with the addition of a single spacer for the outer mounting.
