San Juan, host of the 2017 ICF World Championships, recently welcomed a new wave of freestyle energy as it hosted an ICF Development Camp and International Open. A joint effort between the ICF, local authorities, and the San Juan Kayak Club, the camp brought together paddlers from Argentina, Australia, Peru, Chile, Ireland, Great Britain, and the USA—cementing the venue’s growing status as a hub for global freestyle development. At the heart of the initiative was a ten-day training camp focused on building more than just tricks. Fifteen up-and-coming athletes, aged 14 to 28, worked closely with coaches Mason Hargrove, Charlie Brackpool, and Maxi Montoya.
