An Irish artist has demonstrated a way to transform avocado seeds into creative carvings called Avocado Stone Faces. When Jan Campbell decided that the avocado stone had “a lot of potential” she began to cleverly carve detailed faces into the fruits internal seed. Now, Campbell dedicates an Instagram account to pictures of her talented carvings. With a series of remarkable mythical-like carvings already, Campbell has created a website where customers can purchase her pieces in the regular avocado stone form or as bronze-coated pieces that weigh a bit more. Campbell claims she began the unique hobby in 2014 and said, “I truly adore carving and feel that it’s a necessary mode of communication for me... A Sydney man has had the chip from an Opal travel card implanted into his hand to make his public transport experience more effective. Bio-hacker, Meow-Ludo Disco Gamma Meow-Meow, encased the 10 millimetre by six millimetre chip in biocompatible plastic and then underwent a procedure to have it implanted under the skin on his left hand. Meow-Meow said, “It gives me an ability that not everyone else has, so if someone stole my wallet I could still get home... Retro gaming is back in a big way at the moment, with a number of mini versions of old consoles releasing packed with classic games. Atari, who did a lot of popular consoles in the 1980s, has just announced the Ataribox. It’s designed to look like a classic, old-school console and it will definitely play Atari’s legendary retro games. However, it will also play modern games as well. We’re not sure what that means yet, although we suspect it will play downloadable indie games. No release date has been announced. Nintendo has confirmed that the EB Games Expo happening on the Gold Coast from October 7 to 8 will have playable versions of Super Mario Odyssey. METROID: SAMUS RETURNS 3DS When GameSta was a young boy, the coolest handheld games were the sci-fi platformers in the Metroid series. Even though they were black and white, and pixelated, they were so immersive. Heroine Samus had to explore the caverns of alien planets, levelling-up her abilities to access new areas while fighting off aliens called Metroids. Now one of the best, Metroid II: Return of Samus from 1991, has been remade and it is so awesome. The great map design, secret areas and story are in place, but everything else has been totally redone. It’s in colour now, and while still a 2D platformer, the levels are filled with 3D objects so they really pop. Moves from more recent games have been added, too, like wall jumps, counter…

A couple who are crazy about golf have set a goal to visit every miniature golf course in the United Kingdom. So far, Richard and Emily Gottfreid have played at 743 different courses and hope to reach the 800 mark within the next year. The Gottfreid’s represented Great Britain and took fourth place at the 2012 World Adventure Golf Masters and claim the obsession began during a holiday to Southsea in Hampshire in 2006. A south Australian resident stumbled across glow-in-the-dark algae recently whilst wandering along Tulka beach near Port Lincoln. Kye Higgins’ dog, Miss Millie, discovered the bioluminescent bloom, known as sea sparkle or the scientific name Noctiluca scintillans. The glow-in-the-dark algae is normally a dull pink colour until disturbed by a wave or a foot. Mr Higgins recounted, “Whenever it lands on something it glows, just little splatters of bright blue.” Marine ecologist, Ivan Nagelkerken, explained the illumination was the result of a natural chemical reaction stating, “When these algae are eaten by a predator they glow, so that predators of their predators can see them.” The awesome algae flourishes in warm waters that are still and rich in nutrients and reports suggest it is becoming more common at Australian beaches.…

An English cafe has added a quirky dessert to their menu consisting of scoops of ice cream on a bed of crispy French fries. Caffe Cream in Wallasey, Wirral, shared the new product launch via a Facebook post. The savoury and sweet dessert features a pot of chips with a dollop of ice cream, sprinkled with a blend of salt and sugar. The combination has had diverse reactions with some customers embracing the new dessert and others thinking it is simply disgusting.
