More than 2,500 well-loved and well-groomed dogs gathered in Canberra recently for the International Dog Sports Extravaganza. The event included activities including, dogs pulling 12 times their own body weight, jumping through hoops and playing flyball which involves different dog breeds racing against each other - similar to drag racing for dogs. One owner, Kylie Ellen, described flyball as, “the most fun a dog can have... They absolutely love it.” Generally, the sport is suited to Border Collies and Kelpies with Ellen explaining, “you have four dogs racing at a time and you can have a total of six dogs in your team. The ball is released when the dog presses the spring-loaded pad. They have to turn on the box and race back to their handler.” The three day…

Reports claim 381 new species have been discovered in the Amazon over the past two years. Findings range from one bird, 10 mammals, 32 amphibians, 93 fish, 19 reptiles and 216 plants. The report is the third in a series covering between 2014 and 2015 conducted by the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and Brazil’s Mamiraua Institute for Sustainable Development. Some of the exciting new species uncovered include a fire-tailed titi monkey, known as the Plecturocebus Miltoni, the pink river dolphin, known as the Inia Araguaiaensis and a Stingray with a honeycomb pattern called the Potamotrygon Limai. The annual Air Guitar World Championships has been held in northern Finland. The Godrics Hollow home, where Harry Potter received his distinctive scar, features in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part One. The price for the significant piece of property is reportedly around $1.6 million. A Japanese company has developed a device that informs the owner if they have body odour. Called the KunKun, translated to mean the “sniff, sniff”, the device smells the owners underarms or feet for 20 seconds and sends the grade of smelliness to their smartphone.
