Australia/NZ February - 2025 Edition 253 GIANT SPIDER SURVIVES A zoo in England has celebrated 10 years since releasing thousands of giant fen raft spiders into the United Kingdom essentially saving the species from extinction. Chester Zoo stated, “The fen raft spiders were bred right here at the zoo, and we’re super happy to report there are now more than 10,000 breeding females.” When the spiders’ wetland home was almost destroyed it threatened the arachnid’s existence, until Chester Zoo stepped in. For weeks, staff used tweezers to hand feed tiny flies to hundreds of spiderlings until they were ready for release. The fen raft spider can grow to the size of a human hand. Alpine has finally presented the top tier version of their Alpenglow model at the 2024 Paris Motor Show.
