Be brave! That’s what the team have been reminding each other whenever we talk about our decorating plans for 2017. Last year, I was brave with my garden (lots of dark greys and lush green foliage) and I love it, but played it too safe with my kitchen (white units and marble). Mary, our houses editor, sees first hand the inspiring homes we feature in the magazine, so when it came to her own renovation, ‘bold and brave’ was her motto – although ‘patient’ was as appropriate (as a six-month project turned into a year and a half). Don’t worry if you drop this trend, it’ll bounce. Plastic’s the material du jour, coming a long way from its Bakelite beginnings – now it’s a riot of colour in soft, fabric-like forms and moulded transparent shapes. mugler’s models stormed down the catwalk in plastic raincoats, while lacoste went for a shapely waisted-on-wet-days waterproof outfit. Homeware’s unbreakable too, with fatboy’s candyofnie light made of giant beads and talking tables’ flute displaying all the delicate detail of cut glass, but allowing you to clink a little more vigorously.…

HOME PROFILE THE OWNERS Fashion stylist siouxsie Dickens, her husband Ben, a menswear designer, and their daughter edie, two. THE PROPERTY A five-bedroom, double-fronted Victorian house in southwest London. There’s a living room, kitchendiner, dining room, sunroom, playroom and wC on the ground floor. The first floor has three bedrooms, one with an en-suite shower room, a family bathroom and study. The attic floor houses the dressing room and storage. HALLWAY This opulent, oversized internal door was especially created for Siouxsie and Ben, fusing traditional wood panelling reclaimed from an 18th-century Polish house with grills sourced from an architectural salvage yard on the Isle of Wight. HALL These are the stairs between the ground and mezzanine floors. The design detail Julien is most pleased with is the graded stairs between the ground and the first floor – starting with dark grey to match the floor on the mezzanine and getting lighter to match the pale grey flooring at the bottom – which, he says, almost no one notices! W ith a background in fashion (including stints at Elle and Agent Provocateur), Jo Berryman turned her love of clothes and accessories into a destination clothes emporium called Jezebell in the early Nineties. Inspired by this and her eye for art and architecture, she cut her teeth designing her own home, shared with her former husband, Coldplay bassist Guy Berryman, before establishing Jo Berryman Studio in 2009. Chorizo bolognese with buffalo mozzarella Serves 4 * 4 x dried chorizo (500g), skin removed, chopped * 1 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil * 2 sprigs rosemary, leaves picked * ¼ teaspoon dried chilli flakes * 2 cloves garlic, crushed * sea salt and freshly ground black pepper * 125ml red wine * 400g can chopped tomatoes * 2 tablespoons brown sugar * 400g tagliatelle * 250g buffalo mozzarella, torn Place the chorizo in a food processor and mix until finely chopped.
