Background Clock watching is a forgivable offence when the timepiece in question is an example of great British design at its finest. At first glance, it may look like time’s stood still – Newgate founder and creative director Jim Read’s design of the ‘Electric’ is based on the large-scale wall clocks commonly found in British public spaces, such as train stations and factories, during the Thirties, Forties and Fifties, complete with the deep metal cases, bold retro dials and black metal propeller hands of the classic industrial designs.
