I’ve also got a box (or three) of beautiful brights, wacky variegateds, and a ton of different weights. But I rarely dive in. HOW TO IMPROV PRICE If you are new to improv piecing, a good way to start is by focusing on a particular shape or limited colour palette 1 Gather scraps from your stash, and give them a good press. Consider the size you would like your patchwork panel to finish, and the look you want. Very small scraps are good for smaller blocks, and will produce a busy design. Larger scraps work well for larger blocks, and take less time to piece a panel. Remember that you will lose ¼in from each edge of the piece for seam allowances. Today we’re going to talk quilting! If I’m being honest, I’m one of the last people on Earth who should be giving any quilting advice… it’s the the part of the process that I least enjoy, and often put off as long as possible (anyone else?!). I’ve always struggled with it, physically and mentally. Physically, I find it quite tricky to sling a rolled-up quilt sandwich over my shoulder and slowly feed it through my machine.
