I really love sharing my quilts on social media. But what I don’t love? Taking photos of quilts. And I’m sure I’m not alone in feeling anxious when it comes time to drag out my camera! So, to help reduce the stress, here are my five favourite rules of thumb for great quilt photography… 1 KEEP IT SIMPLE You (probably) don’t need any fancy equipment (unless you’re publishing your pictures). And, I’d bet, the camera on your phone is pretty top notch, as most of them are these days. I actually take 95% of all my pictures on my phone – I always have it on hand and it couldn’t be easier to quickly snap a pic as I go! 2 MAKE IT NATURAL Natural light is your best friend.…

With five stencils to choose from, there’s plenty of creative inspiration in this cool set! Here’s how to get started: 1 Place your chosen stencil on top of your quilt sandwich in the position you want to start your pattern. 2 Use a washable fabric marker to draw through the gaps in the stencil, making sure that your marks are clear. 3 Decide how you want to spread the design over the rest of your quilt. You can rotate the pattern if you like, or simply repeat it. Take the stencil and line it up with the last line you drew, then continue the pattern from that line. 4 Continue in this way, matching up the pattern until your quilt is covered. MAKING A PUFF BLOCK Making puff blocks one at a time is the best place to begin if you are only making a few blocks, or just practising the technique to get the hang of it 1 You will need two squares of fabric for each puff block. The top square, which will be on show, should be 1½in larger than the lining square. The lining square will be hidden behind the backing of the final quilt, so can be any scrap or lining fabric you have to hand.
