How did you first get into quilting? I began making mixed media paintings in graduate school, inspired by Robert Rauschenberg and by the quilts of the southern United States, where I am from. I was intimidated by actual quilting, so I borrowed the concept and did it with paint and found objects instead. Eventually I got better at sewing, and began experimenting with piecing.
