Almost lost in the landslide of product announcements at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference keynote was the reveal the MacBook Pro received an important update: the new laptops have the same design as the previous version, but the laptops feature new processors that should provide a speed boost. Features The biggest MacBook Pro news is that Apple is now using Intel’s Kaby Lake processors. Kaby Lake is Intel’s seventh-generation processor, and it replaces the sixth-generation Skylake processors that were in the previous MacBook Pro. We might not have had a look at the customizable Mac Pro that Apple is working on, but that doesn’t mean Tim Cook and friends didn’t deliver some serious upgrades to our desks during Apple’s WWDC. Apple and Amazon have settled (at least some of) their differences. Amazon Prime Video is officially making its way to the Apple TV. Apple CEO Tim Cook announced the all-new Amazon Prime Video app for Apple TV at this year’s WWDC keynote. He did not mention when the app will be available, but it’s though it would hit the tvOS App Store this summer. The MacBook Air now has a 1.8GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 processor, a bump up from the 1.6GHz dual-core Core i5 that was released over two years ago. I’m glad to see a positive security trend: more companies have software available for hosted backups and cloud-based storage access that incorporates user-owned encryption. With these products and services, you are the only person or entity that controls the encryption key or passphrase that unlocks the key. The company that makes the software or runs the service not only never sees it, they have no way to access it. Apple engages in this only with iCloud Keychain and iMessage.
