While macOS is a very secure operating system, malware can get through, especially if users are opening unsafe or unknown files. One such vulnerability was recently discovered that could allow an attacker to control a Mac running any macOS version up to Big Sur simply by clicking on an email attachment. Researcher Park Minchan (via Bleeping Computer) found that files that have the inetloc extension can be used to exploit a vulnerability in the macOS Finder. In a blog post on SSD Secure Disclosure, Minchan reports that inetloc files “can be embedded inside emails which if the user clicks on them will execute the commands embedded inside them without providing a prompt or warning to the user”. The Mac can support different keyboard layouts and you can switch between them quite easily. It’s one way you can get more out of the keyboard, especially if you work in multiple languages. However, it’s not slap-your-face obvious on how to change the keyboard layout in macOS Big Sur. First, you’ll need to go to System Preferences and open the Keyboard pane. The keyboard layouts appear in the Input Sources tab, and the ones you currently have active will be in the left column. The Photos library used in macOS acts like a file when it’s actually a package, a special macOS container for holding many objects together. This prevents us from accidentally moving items out of it, renaming files that need to have fixed names or modifying documents that shouldn’t be touched. It also makes the Photos library and similar libraries and app-associated file packages easier to move. If you’re migrating from one Mac to another – or just want to move your Photos library from one to another – you can simply copy the file. Thankfully, there’s an instant fix. In a new support document, Apple outlines a bug affecting all iPhone 13 models as well as the new Pad and iPad mini that prevents access to Apple Music. Bloomberg reports that Kevin Lynch is now in charge of making the Apple Car a reality. Lynch, who is Apple’s VP of Technology, takes over from Doug Field, who left the company to join the Ford Motor Company as its chief advanced technology and embedded systems officer. Concerned about your Mac’s start-up SSD or hard disk drive falling into someone else’s hands? Encrypting the start-up volume prevents access to that drive unless they know an account’s password or, in some cases, possess the correct hardware to unlock the contents. Apple automatically enables drive encryption for the start-up volume on any Intel Mac with a T2 Security Chip and on all M1-based Macs.
