The changes to the exterior of the Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 are basically non-existent – these devices both look very familiar. But I got a chance to use the new DoubleTap feature on a Series 9, which lets you send a signal to activate the default button in the Apple Watch interface. It takes a little getting used to, though, after a couple of minutes, I got the hang of it. The Watch seems to be cued to look for a DoubleTap when performing other gestures, such as raising the watch from a lowered position. With macOS Sonoma, you can create a Personal Voice, which is a voice that your Mac uses that sounds like you. The Mac’s text-to-speech capabilities can be used to recite in a voice similar to yours anything typed using the Live Speech feature. According to Apple, the voice that is created uses the Mac’s machine learning, and since everything is kept on the Mac, the user’s voice information is kept private and secure. So you don’t have to worry about your recording being used for nefarious reasons by Apple or anyone else. The Personal Voice isn’t perfect. With the release of macOS Sonoma, Apple includes a ton of new wallpapers that are all gorgeous. They’re so amazing that they might be the best reason to upgrade. There are 47 new wallpapers, with more Cityscape, Underwater and Earth wallpapers. All of the wallpapers can be set as the Mac’s animated screensaver where the scene pans across the display. If you use the Spaces feature, a different wallpaper can be set for each desktop Space. These wallpapers can all be used on the new Sonoma Lock Screen, which seamlessly zooms into your desktop. Apple’s newest iPhones are here and the reviews are already starting to roll in. The first impressions are incredibly positive and based on the preorder wait times, they’re already flying off shelves. You’d be forgiven if you struggled to name anything new about the Apple Watch Series 9. All of the changes (other than the new pink colour) are under the hood, with a new S9 SiP, U2 ultra-wide band chip, and brighter display. However, the most intriguing new feature is a new double-tap gesture that lets you control some Apple Watch Series 9 commands without touching the display. All you need to do is tap the index finger and thumb of your watch hand together twice to trigger the primary function in an app, such as answering or ending a call, playing and pausing music, or snoozing an alarm.
