TEMBA Bavuma’s first series as captain of South Africa’s men’s One-Day International team was certainly exciting.
Two matches went down to the last over, there was controversy about a run out, great batting – particularly from Pakistan – and fabulous fast bowling, especially by Anrich Nortje.
The outcome of the series wasn’t one Bavuma, the players, coaches and the South African public would have wanted, but there was enough good play from the hosts, against an excellent Pakistan side, to suggest that under Bavuma’s guidance, the Proteas will be a competitive team.
Of course, more than being competitive, what South Africans want is for the Proteas to be winners again. However a number of elements need to be put in place for that to happen.
