The Malamulele Regional Court in Limpopo has sentenced two men, Enock Sibanda, 31, and Eckson Shirinda,28, to eight years in jail for poaching and related offences.
Limpopo spokesperson for the National Prosecuting Authority Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi said the Mozambican duo had pleaded not guilty to the raft of charges.
“Although Sibanda and Shirinda pleaded not guilty, the State led evidence and they were convicted of trespassing in the Skukuza National Park, contravention of the Immigration Act, possession of a prohibited firearm, possession of ammunition, illegal hunting and killing of an elephant. Sibanda was also found guilty of possession of an illegal firearm,” said Malabi-Dzhangi.
The two were arrested on November 14, 2018, inside the Kruger National Park by rangers.
