IN recent weeks, at least five children were kidnapped in Limpopo and Gauteng for ransom in what appears to be the work of criminal gangs.
This includes the Moti brothers – aged between 6 and 15 – who were kidnapped by seven gunmen in Polokwane while on their way to school.
Zia, 15, Alaan, 13, Zayyad, 11, and Zidan, 6, were bundled into a vehicle after the gang intercepted their family car, according to police. Three weeks later, after the police failed to make a breakthrough, the boys resurfaced at Vuwani in Vhembe, more than 150km from their home, and were later reunited with their parents.
