Fraud, corruption and crimes dealing with smuggling, theft and the sale of precious metal, diamonds, narcotics and non-ferrous metals are regarded as the top five national priority crimes in the country.
This is according to the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigations’ (DPCI) which provided its third quarter update for the 2023/24 financial year yesterday.
The DPCI, more commonly known as the Hawks, provided an update on its arrests, convictions and recoveries.
Hawks head Lieutenant General Dr Godfrey Lebeya, said they made 724 arrests, including 156 for fraud involving 15 companies; 64 for precious metals and diamonds; 67 arrests for narcotics; 51 for non-ferrous metals and 51 corruption-related arrests.
