GETTING AN ALLAY To use an allay, you first have to FIND an allay. At the moment, there’s no way to create these utility mobs – and if that changes we’ll let you know! For now, you can find them inside cages outside pillager outposts and inside the jail cells of woodland mansions. Freeing an allay will cause it to wander aimlessly, but once one is free and safe, you can attach a lead or lure it towards music in order to control where it heads. ALLAY BEHAVIOUR If you give an item to an allay, it’ll hold that item and begin to follow you around. BUILD SPECS The addition of the new mangrove biome means it’s a great time to experiment with your own swamp-related builds, and what could be more appropriate than a semiaquatic swamp shack, which will provide a waterside base for all your swamp-exploration needs! NEW MOBS! New mobs are always a fun addition to any content update of Minecraft, and this time there are no fewer than four! ALLAYS This new helper mob can be found imprisoned by pillagers in mansions and outposts. They can be instructed by the player to find and collect items that have been dropped in the world and return them to their master. COLLECTING TORCHES If you’ve managed to buy a Minecraft magazine without learning how to craft a torch, we can only say good luck to you! But just to be complete … You can craft four torches using a stick and a piece of coal. But did you know you can ALSO craft torches by using a stick and a piece of charcoal? That means you don’t necessarily have to dig for coal ore – you can make torches using nothing but wood and a furnace if you like! But let’s face it, crafting them with coal is normally easier. BUILDING CHALLENGES 1 Ever wondered what a monument looks like without the water inside? Why not build a wall around an ocean monument, then dry the whole thing out with sponges! This is super-hard to do and it might be best if you do it in multiplayer where lots of people can help you out! 2 Grow a bunch of giant mushrooms next to one another, then hollow out the insides to live in. OBSIDIAN ABOUT OBSIDIAN Obsidian is a super-tough block known for its high blast resistance and near-indestructibility – as well as being an essential component in both Nether portals and enchantment tables. The good news is that it’s easy to create obsidian – if water flows over a static lava source block, it’ll instantly transform into a block of obsidian. To create it yourself, collect lava in buckets, empty them into a pit so that the lava doesn’t flow in any direction, then drop water nearby. Instant obsidian! FINDING OBSIDIAN Dispensers can be collected using a wooden pickaxe or better. When mined, they take 2.65 seconds with a wooden pickaxe or 045 seconds with a golden one.
