SUPER DUPER GRAPHICS Originally announced at the E3 video game exhibition in 2017, the Super Duper Graphics pack was supposed to bring ray-traced shaders and super high-res textures to Minecraft for the latest computers and consoles. Sadly, it proved TOO ambitious: in December 2019, Mojang admitted that it didn’t perform well enough to release. Details are scarce, but reading between the lines of the cancellation it seems like they were stuck either releasing something that slowed down the game on a lot of devices, or restricting it to certain high-end devices or creating a separate version for the super graphics pack, neither of which they were keen on. FARMLAND FINDING FARMLAND Farmland is a variant of dirt that can be used to grow crops. You can find it generated naturally in village farms, typically surrounded by logs, sandstone, trapdoors or cobblestone depending on the type of village. Farmland blocks are also present in certain rooms of a woodland mansion. Other than in these places, farmland cannot be created naturally, even by farmer villagers – it falls to the player to add more if it’s needed! CREATING FARMLAND Making farmland is incredibly simple. All you need to do is craft a hoe and then use it on any dirt-based block. That means grass blocks, dirt blocks and dirt paths can all be transformed into farmland with a single prod! BARREL Barrels are a form of chest that can be placed in any orientation and stacked against one another without preventing you from opening them. Unlike chests, they will not connect to adjacent barrels, making it easier to organise and segregate your items. They are similar to shulker boxes, although they cannot be used to carry items in the inventory. Barrels are the job site block for fishermen and can be found in fisher cottages within villages, or crafted using six wood planks and two wood slabs. BLAST FURNACE The blast furnace is a specialised version of the furnace which smelts metals more quickly than a normal furnace, but cannot be used to smelt (or cook) any other items. CANDY CANES The classic striped candy cane is a Christmas mainstay, and super-simple to build in Minecraft. Here we’ve knocked two together in festive green and red, but you can use whatever colours you like to match your decorations! Note the mixture of concrete for the colouring and quartz for the white areas. Using quartz rather than white concrete means you can use the quartz stairs blocks to give the cane more of a rounded shape at the top without it looking too different from the other white areas. BEHAVIOUR Wandering traders are passive mobs that spawn randomly in the Overworld – along with their two llamas – around once every four days, as long as there isn’t already one in the world. They will always spawn within 48 blocks of a player or next to a nearby villager bell. They can appear in almost any terrain and can often be found in apparently unreachable locations, though they never spawn underground. If the trader is left alone for two days, it’ll despawn naturally; unlike some other mobs, adding a nametag or placing it in a boat won’t stop it from disappearing. At night they’ll drink a potion of Invisibility to hide from hostile mobs, and at dawn they drink milk to remove the effect. TRADES A wandering trader always…

ABOUT SLIMEBALLS Slimeballs are an ingredient in several crafting recipes which can be collected in the game. They are usually (but not always!) the drop of a slime. While they don’t make anything essential to progressing in the game, they are nonetheless one of the more fun items around – you can make several cool things using them.
