It’s hard to believe that Minecraft Legends was only launched back in April – but already it’s nearly six months old, and Mojang has been working away at improving the game ever since. If you’ve not played it yet, it’s a game set in the world of Minecraft, but very different to play. It’s a strategy game this time, where you need to fight off invading foes, manage your resources, and basically keep the Overworld as safe as you can. No small task, that! What, then, has changed? Well, Mojang regularly does little updates and bug fixes for the game, and has done since its launch. This time though it’s done its first ‘major’ update, and made some changes to the game. BUILD SPECS ■ To build this screen, and the film that’s going to play on it, we’re going to use command blocks and Minecraft’s ‘clone’ command. It’s a clever system that we found thanks to YouTuber Fed X Gaming, that allows you to animate frame by frame and then ‘project’ the film to wherever you like! ■ Put command blocks into your inventory (by typing /give @s minecraft:command_block into the command line), then whatever materials match the things you want to animate. On Bedrock, it’s best to select ‘Show Coordinates’ from the options menu; Java users can see the ‘focus block’ numbers on the right of debug screen that appears if you press F3. ■ You will be building the frames from your film (you can see ours is a…

BARRIER BLOCKS Barrier blocks are solid and transparent, but also completely invisible. They also can’t be broken – or even seen! – in Survival mode. It’s impossible for players or mobs to get past them, and they’re only visible while you have barrier blocks selected in the inventory, at which point they take on the appearance of a circular red sign with a slash through it which always faces the player. Barriers will not interact with non-player blocks – they let arrows, fireballs, rain and potions through, and don’t connect to fences, gates or walls. This makes them useful for penning people in when designing multiplayer or adventure maps – you can put a wall of barrier blocks around certain areas so that you can stop players wandering in the…

HOW TO USE BLAZE RODS Like many items, blaze rods have no use when they are in their raw form – their use comes only as part of a crafting recipe. A single blaze rod can be used as an ingredient to create a brewing stand or four end rods, or they can even be used to power a furnace – although this is something of a waste of these valuable items! The most useful thing blaze rods do is get crafted into blaze powder, which is necessary to create a fire charge, magma cream or – perhaps most importantly – eyes of ender. Dear Ask Us Anything, How do you get to the End in just 15 minutes in Survival mode? Thank you! Jamie, age 7 Hey Jamie! This is technically possible, though it is EXTREMELY difficult. The short version is that you have to find and enter an End portal found inside a stronghold. To do this you need to accomplish the following things: ■ Enter the Nether. The quickest way to do this is probably to get the materials to craft two buckets and build (or repair) a Nether portal by turning lava source blocks into obsidian in the right shape, so that you don’t have to mine it. SMITHING TEMPLATES To apply an armour trim, you first need to find one of the 16 smithing templates – we’ve noted alongside each type where you can find it. You then need to craft the template, a piece of armour and a trimming material together on the table. This will consume the template and the material and leave you with a newly trimmed piece of armour. Because the template gets used up, you need at least four to make a full set, but you can duplicate a template using the original, seven diamonds, and a specific block – which we’ve noted alongside each design. OLDEST: 21102 LEGO MINECRAFT MICRO WORLD: THE FOREST This is where it all began: the very first LEGO Minecraft set released in June 2012. TERRACOTTA WHERE TO FIND IT Terracotta is a decorative block which you can create yourself, or collect from the many places it is generated. You’ll find most terracotta in the badlands biome, where huge amounts of unstained terracotta generate alongside red, orange, yellow, brown, white and light grey varieties. Blue and orange stained terracotta are also available in small amounts in desert temples, where they form decoration on the front walls of the temple and the floor of its inner chamber. It is also found in limited amounts in desert village houses, in underwater ruins, and in trail ruins.
