This year’s Mini Fest, on September 14th, had some fantastic displays including a collection of RSP Mini Coopers, celebrating 35 years since production, as were the Mini 30s. Mini Sidewalks were celebrating their 30th anniversary. The event is run by the indefatigable British Mini Club who promise visitors an abundance of Minis to marvel at, a multitude of club stand displays, and there were also around 50 trade and autojumble stands for full-on retail therapy. Due to the predicted wet weather in the afternoon, BMC encouraged folk on their socials to get to the show early. I have a 1972 Mini which is still fitted with the original drum brakes. They work reasonably well for drum brakes but recently I had a front cylinder leak fluid onto the linings causing the brakes to pull to the left. All of the front cylinders have now been replaced along with the linings. The brakes bled through and adjusted fairly easily and the resulting pedal is quite good. At 10.30am on Sunday September 7th, the seaside town of Worthing was woken up by a cacophony of Mini horns. This is the traditional way of starting the annual Minis by the Sea event, run by West Sussex Mini Owners Club. WSMOC members worked hard throughout the day to ensure Mini owners had a great time and gave generously to the chosen charities of St Barnabus Hospice and Chestnut Tree House Children’s Hospice. As well as donation buckets there was an auction and raffle with all proceeds going to the charities. When the devastating news of the cancellation of International Mini Meeting 2025 hit us at the beginning of August, just twenty days before it was due to start, there were hundreds of distraught Mini fans from all over Europe, and some further afield. Many had booked ferries, accommodation en route, even flights, which were mostly non-refundable, with time booked off work, so would either have to lose money or travel to England with no event to go to. STUART TURNER 1933-2025 Stuart Turner, one of British rallying’s most influential figures, has passed away at the age of 92. Born in Stoke-on-Trent in 1933, Turner broke into rallying at club level by chance after accepting the offer of a back-seat ride in his sister’s boyfriend’s Rover on a local navigation event, and getting them all out of trouble when they got lost. He would go on to sit alongside Ron Gouldburn and John Sprinzel in the first two iterations of the British Rally Championship, from 1958, as well as navigating for Erik Carlsson when he won the RAC rally of 1960. Angelo ‘Miki’ Corso was known to many in the scene as a great Mini enthusiast, and also a Mini-themed spare parts and accessories dealer, with his stand known as ‘Il Bagatto’ (‘The Magician’). In his hometown of Savona, Italy, he managed to organise a Mini meet where the track for the gymkhana was up the ramps of a multi-storey car park; he also owned many Minis, participated in many international meetings, and was associated with numerous clubs including Red & White Mini Time (Genoa), S Department (Genoa), Mainly Minis (Turin) and Maiali da Corsa (Milan).…

The van has always been part of my life, but its story started even before I came along. When my dad, Jamie, first bought it off my uncle nearly thirty years ago for £100, it was little more than a rusty shell that had been abandoned on a farm. Most people would have scrapped it, but my dad saw something in it, constantly pestering my uncle about buying it. Back then, he used it as his daily drive. Restoring an older Mini can sometimes present many problems along the way and some can be challenging to overcome. Problems can include parts availability, fitting problems or just things generally going wrong. Another issue can be trying to maintain an original look at the same time as incorporating modifications, additional equipment and/or technology. One area where this applies, and has done since the early days, is adding extra instruments to the dashboard. In the past there were numerous dashboard kits available, some were nice, some were frankly horrible, and of course many were homemade. CTR 566C, the Mk1 Morris Mini Moke affectionately known as Jennifer, was built on January 6th 1965. She is Moke number 829 of the 14,518 originally produced, painted in Spruce Green with a front passenger seat as an optional extra; of the total production, only 1467 units were sold in the home market at an original price of £406 7s 1d. Jennifer’s first home was a golf club in Rugby, where she was used for course maintenance and never taxed, as she never ventured onto public roads. In the early 1970s she was purchased by an owner in North Yorkshire, who repainted her yellow over the original Spruce Green using coach paint rather than cellulose spray.
