Although I modelled boats throughout the 1970s, I then got side tracked by model railways, until that is, relatively recently, it became apparent our house simply couldn’t accommodate any more railway layouts; my wife is a very tolerant woman! Being familiar, therefore, with both hobbies, it has occurred to me that while the practice and process of weathering model railways has been around for decades, it only seems to have gained popularity amongst the model boating fraternity in more recent years. I stand to be corrected on this, but during the 1970s I weathered a Clyde Puffer, only to have it ridiculed at my local club! Scale colour is, of course, distinct from weathering, but the two are almost inseparable; so, what do I mean by scale colour?
