I COUNTED THE NUMBER OF children on the list again, and then recounted the number of Bibles, gifts, and stuffed animals. Easter was fast approaching, and we didn’t have enough items for the baskets.
My husband and I direct a ministry, Baskets of Joy, that provides Easter baskets to children living in children’s homes, foster homes, and shelters. Each basket contains a Bible, a stuffed animal, candy, and several gifts, and is a tangible representation of Jesus’s love, so each child feels special and knows someone cares—most of all Jesus.
Each year after Easter, we start preparing for the next year. We purchase Easter sale items and other clearance merchandise and donations start to flow in. But as I stood over the baskets one Easter season, I started to worry.…
