As a new Christian, I found a Bible church with a scholarly pastor who taught Scripture verse by verse, and I faithfully took notes. My husband worked most Sundays, so I immersed myself in Bible-study classes, growing significantly in my Bible knowledge.
Soon after, my first son was born, and my husband stopped working weekends. We were led to a small, local, community-oriented, family-friendly mainline church. The intellectual preacher had a varied spiritual background. The Bible studies were less formal. I taught Sunday school. The Bible lessons were simple but instructive.
