JOHN P. FISCHER, Monroe, Mich. First Prize. “I was born 27 years ago in Melvin, Ill. However, most of my life has been spent in Pittsburgh, Pa. After attending high school, I served three years in the army. Upon returning home in 1945, I enrolled at Carnegie Institute of Technology, from which I subsequently received a degree in Industrial Design in the spring of 1949. Shortly thereafter, I was employed as a package designer for the Washington, Pa. branch of River Raisin Paper Co., which manufactures corrugated and solid fibre shipping containers. During my 2½ years there in charge of the design department, I acquired a wife and a 1942 Lincoln Continental hardtop.
