AS WITH ALL WRITERS on sports cars, author Conley feels it necessary to define what a sports car is. We agree with his interpretation: A car that is “specifically designed for high-quality performance, serving in a dual capacity—competition and transportation.” But, by his own definition, he then should not have listed cars such as the Alvis, Austin A-40, Riley, Rolls-Royce and Simca. Further, how can cars of this type meet his additional qualifications that a sports car “… is made for high-speed road use, and has to have rapid acceleration.”
