It’s not well known that Dr. Porsche was awarded his doctorate primarily for his work in aircraft engine design and development. In fact, the first air-cooled flat-six Porsche-engined aircraft flew in 1909, near Vienna, Austria. After World War One, Dr. Porsche was involved in one of the first jet engine projects, when the dark clouds of World War Two ground all such endeavors to a halt.
