My WRC-style slides were looking good—until my own overconfidence took over. Similar to soccer, rally-style racing is hugely popular in Europe, but just isn’t very big in the USA. Why, I don’t know, as it offers some of the wildest, most aggressive driving of any form of motorsport. Factor in that top World Rally Championship cars feature technology (exotic turbo systems, sequential manual gearboxes, all-wheel drive, radical brakes, and such) that rivals Formula One cars, and you begin to understand the true nature of the sport. Last year, Subaru was rumored to have spent a staggering $10 million on its rally program alone. This is serious business, folks.
