Big sections of rocks can be intimidating to ride over, but if you approach them right, you can ride them with ease.
There are two types of rock garden – ones with loose rocks, in which they can move around as you ride them, and solid rock gardens, where the rocks are embedded into the ground. The latter can be more damaging to your bike, because the rocks won’t move, which means the hard edges that poke out are hazardous to your rims, tyres, chainrings, pedals and rear mech. Check a rock garden out before tackling it – look for the worst rocks to avoid, rather than the smoothest line.
