In 2023, the Enduro World Series (EWS) will become the UCI Mountain Bike Enduro World Cup (EDR). All races will be in a one-day format and a new points system will be introduced. E-bike enduro has also been given World Cup status (E-EDR) and will follow the same format, but with additional technical climbs. As with the EWS, amateur races will run alongside some of the EDR events throughout the year, giving anyone the opportunity to take on these world-class tracks and cheer on the pros all in the same weekend. It remains to be seen just exactly how the new format will work, but it’s sure to provide us with some entertaining racing from the best in the world. There’s no doubt that extra motivation is required to keep riding through the British winter, when it’s more than likely cold, damp and muddy, and the technical challenge of muddy ruts and sniper roots increases, as does the length of the post-ride clean-up. It’s worth making the effort, though, to keep up fitness, improve your skills and have a great time outside on your bike with pals. All you need is some decent riding gear to protect you from the elements, and that’s where a warm winter jacket or midlayer comes in. On paper, Canyon’s latest Strive CFR is my ideal bike, with its geometry, travel and intended use all being exactly what I’m looking for.
