Each year, the “season” in Naples seems to start a bit earlier. It certainly appears we are steadily shifting to a more year–round season. Of course, part of that shift is a result of more young couples with school-aged children planting roots in the area— and they return to our little slice of paradise earlier than what’s been customary for the start of the school year. This month, we celebrate those youngsters heading back to class with our first-ever kids’ fashion feature. The Dock at Crayton Cove (dockcraytoncove.com) celebrated its fortieth anniversary this year and hosted the final Great Dock Canoe Race in May. The milestone was the perfect time for Debby DePasquale, wife of The Dock founder Vin DePasquale, to publish a book: The Dock at Crayton Cove, Everybody’s Kitchen (2016, Mascot Books). “When we would get together with friends, they were always curious about the restaurant and why Vin chose Naples,” says DePasquale. “Finally, I told him, ‘We need to write down your story.’” With recipes and photographs, the book illustrates the history of The Dock and how it has changed over the years. The troupe brings OVO to Florida for the first time this fall, a production that has been seen by more than 4 million people around the globe since its 2009 debut. The title means egg in Portuguese, and the two O’s on either side of the V represent an insect’s eyes and nose. The story’s setting is a colorful ecosystem where insects work, live, and play in a nonstop frenzy. A mysterious egg appears, sparking much curiosity among the insect residents.
