In 2021 Stuart decided to spend the winter in Florida for the same reason many birds do: warmth. She drove her camper for weeks around Merritt Island, part of a biodiverse estuary, capturing images of birds. Though Stuart has photographed over a hundred avian species across the country, she found those in the Sunshine State to be less skittish. Sure enough, this roseate spoonbill wasn’t spooked by her camera when she came upon it one morning. Stuart sat quietly by the road, observing the bird and snapping the shutter.
